Dear Brand Ambassador,
The European Union has introduced an initiative called the Payment Services Directive (PSD2). This new Directive will enter into force on 14 September 2019. This will be introduced to make online transactions more secure and to provide users with a kind of shield against fraud. This also affects online credit card payments.
This change affects all e-commerce businesses throughout the European Union.
When you or your customers pay for an order online by credit card in the future, it will now go through the secure Strong Customer Authentication (SCA) process.
This means that additional security queries may be triggered by the so-called 3D-secure procedure (e.g. “MasterCard Secure Code” or “Verified by VISA”).
These are procedures of the respective credit card issuing banks. This means that the manner in which security issues are dealt with depends on the particular bank.
There are security checks for the payment which authenticate the payment.
- Knowledge - something only that the payer knows - e.g. pin/password, banking app, TAN procedure.
- Possession - something that only the payer owns - e.g. a card or mobile phone
- Inherence - personal identification - e.g. fingerprint, voice, or face recognition
How´s that done?
When you or your customers make a payment online, they are automatically redirected to their bank's eBanking page (via 3DS pop-up or iframe).
For security reasons, 2 elements for the SCA process must be confirmed here.
Once this process has been completed and authenticated by the bank in real time, the payer is taken back to the VERWAY website where he sees the order summary.
Please inform yourself (and your customers) in good time at your bank or credit card issuer. They will then inform you whether you can already use such a procedure or whether you still have to register for it.
Please note that registration may take a few days, depending on the bank or credit issuing institution. So you and your customers can continue to shop safely and conveniently online.
It is easy and safe!
These are simple and easy to understand steps designed to give every payer security and protection when making online purchases.
Please note these points for a successful payment:
- All Information is complete and error-free.
- The orderer and Cardholder are identical (otherwise authorisation may be refused).
- The Account is covered.
- The Authorisation has been completed.
In the order confirmation you will always find the link to be able to complete the payment in the second attempt.
Info: If a payment transaction has been successfully completed and approved by the bank office, you can see this in the back office under Orders. You see the payment status “paid” and the payment date. Then you know that the order will be activated and the shipping will be prepared. These processes do not run at VERWAY, but at the respective banks and credit card issuers. These changes are security steps for all eCommerce companies to make online credit card payments within the EU. This change will take place on 14 September 2019.
So you and your customers can buy great VERWAY highlight products safely and conveniently online.
